The Scenario: A portable speaker with a dented grille
A portable audio brand was shipping its flagship speaker in a foam-cradled box. Grille dents appeared in 1 in 18 shipments, and the brand wanted to remove foam from its packaging.
Pain Points
- Grilles dented when speakers dropped corner-first;
- Foam cradles added a non-recyclable component;

The Solution: A cradle that keeps grilles clear
The brand switched to a molded pulp cradle with raised corner bosses that hold the cabinet by its edges, leaving the grille face suspended:
1. Edge-holding corner bosses The speaker hangs from its corners, so the grille never touches a surface.
2. Accessory side channels Cable and dongle pockets sit beside the cabinet, away from its finish.
3. Drop-tested to ISTA 3A The cradle passed ISTA 3A with no grille contact on any face.
The Result: Dents down, foam out
Grille-dent claims fell from 5.5% to 0.7%. The brand removed foam from the BOM and promoted the molded pulp cradle as part of its sustainability report.
