Glass bottles collide in transit when a carton lacks internal dividers. Molded pulp inserts form individual cells that separate bottles, cushion side impact, and add crush resistance to the whole carton.

The Scenario: Twelve wine bottles, zero contact

A small-batch spirits brand was shipping six-bottle cartons to retail accounts. Bottles arrived with scuffed shoulders and one in twenty showed a hairline chip at the neck, all traced to bottles touching inside the carton.

Pain Points

The Solution: Cells that hold bottles apart and hold the carton together

A molded pulp insert with twelve formed cells replaced the corrugated divider set. Each cell cradles a bottle from shoulder to base, and the insert itself locks into the carton walls:

1. Individual bottle cells No two bottles share a wall, so side impact never transfers glass-to-glass.

2. Shoulder-to-base cradle Deep cells support the full bottle profile, preventing lean and neck stress.

3. Carton-locking geometry Insert edges engage the carton flaps, turning box and insert into one rigid unit.

The Result: Quiet pallets, intact shoulders

Bottle-on-bottle damage disappeared from the QA log. The brand removed the corrugated divider kit from their BOM, and the molded insert doubled as the top pad, simplifying the pack line from three components to two.
